    Start Reading Together Today!

Families Reading Every Day, or "FRED" as we like to call it, is a 4-week FREE reading program where you focus on reading together as a family. During the program, you enter daily reading logs of the number of books and time you read together as a family.

FRED is a fun and effective way to strengthen family bonds and promote literacy development by encouraging families to focus on reading together. The FRED program is for adults with kids of all ages! All it takes is a commitment to spend time reading together.

The goal is 15 minutes a day for the first 2 weeks, and 30 minutes a day for the next 2 weeks but it could be more depending on the child's age and the adults involved.

How to Participate in the FRED Program

  1. REGISTER or LOGIN
  2. Create a Child Profile
  3. Start a New Session
  4. Enjoy 4 Weeks of Family Fun!

Families can participate for free in FRED in-person, online, or both! Many Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service county offices host local FRED projects providing extra support with events, activities, and educational pieces such as newsletters, tip sheets, and more. The FRED Family Guide and a few of the other documents on the “resources” page are used for in-person projects as well.

With this online component, a completely virtual project could happen using just the website and electronic communications. Or, a FRED project could be a combination of both in-person and online. Families can also conduct their own FRED project whenever they want by using this site.

FRED Groups

FRED Groups can be organized to bring families together with common interests to participate within designated time frames. FRED Groups can be hosted at local schools, churches, libraries, neighborhoods, or other community locations.

Organizers can create a 'FRED Group' online and generate a Group Code for families to use to participate with an organization or community group. Please note, a FRED account is required to create a FRED Group, but it is not required for the Group organizer's family to partcipate. Such as, a teacher could create a FRED Group solely for the children in the teacher's classroom.

To create a FRED Group, please Register or Login and click "FRED Groups" on the FRED Dashboard.

County Extension Offices

Local county Extension offices are available to assist and provide leadership. Whether you want to create a group, or participate on your own, let your local office know you have signed up and ask. They also provide an array of other science-based educational programs designed to improve the overall health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities.

If you live outside of Texas or can’t get in touch with your local Extension office, submit a support ticket and we will try our best to connect with you.
